One of the things we love most about what we do is having the opportunity to meet incredible, talented, passionate people through the work that we do. Not just the contributors and characters, but also the fellow filmmakers that we work with along the way. Sharing skills, knowledge, creative styles and flair is so important so that we can all continue to grow, develop, learn, share, and spread a love for storytelling across the African continent.
These past few months have been exciting for ReWild Africa as we had the privilege to work on a bunch of productions across the African continent. Over the past three weeks, we have embarked on an exhilarating journey, partnering with eight exceptional freelancers hailing from various corners of Africa and other parts of the world. We put together five captivating stories that we are proud of and looking forward to sharing with you all!
Project Highlights: A Glimpse into our Collaborative Ventures
The first film was in the beautiful Ethiopia 🇪🇹 with Julian Culverhouse and Luke Nelson. It is such a joy to work with filmmakers who are not only incredibly talented cinematographers and cinematic storytellers, but also share a sense of humour, and take joy out of life in the same way we do.. Embracing freelancers infuses fresh ideas into our projects, unlocking diverse perspectives that invigorate our creative process. Jules has been with us on a contractual basis for a while, and it's been an absolute honour to have this artistic soul with us for the time being. Luke has worked loads with the Natural History Unit at the BBC and its epic to have him involved in some of our smaller productions. Millie Timms was the 'client' here, who is a friend of ReWild's. Big vibes!
Second film was in Nigeria 🇳🇬 with Frank Papuskha, Jigar Ganatra from Tanzania, and Kenny from Lagos. We have worked with Frank a few times before, and always love our collaborations. It was our first time working with Jigar and Kenny, and we are truly appreciative of this opportunity to work together. In their spare time, Frank and Jigar are on a mission to invigorate the filmmaking community across East Africa with the skills and tools to tell their own stories, and their passion for African storytelling and filmmaking always comes across in the films they create. Their insights ensure that our storytelling resonates organically with the audience, forging a powerful emotional connection.
Third film was in Uganda 🇺🇬 with Roberto Colombo and Kent Andreasen. What a creative power team! We have always admired the artistic flare in the work of these two and we are excited to have collaborated with these talented minds. They have the ability to infuse narratives with a distinctive flair that captivates and engages viewers on a profound level. All this contributes to transforming ordinary stories into immersive and unforgettable cinematic experiences.
Fourth film was in Kenya 🇰🇪 with brother and sister duo, Luke Nelson and ReWilder Megan Nelson. This sister and brother collaboration in cinematography stands as an example of the magic that can arise when complementary skills meet. Their partnership provides a unique blend of creativity, with Megan’s acute eye for detail and Luke's innate storytelling prowess intertwining seamlessly. This synergy promises to yield not only inspiring cinematography
Fifth recent film was a bit all over, from Uganda 🇺🇬 , Senegal 🇸🇳 and also in Kenya 🇰🇪, (and soon to be in Cameroon 🇨🇲), with freelancer Tim van Vuuren with an internal team member directing this one, Alessandra, and Megan in Kenya. Tim has a massive passion for the natural world and we are lucky to surround ourselves with his energy and filmmaking gift. This collaboration of seasoned creatives ensures seamless execution, elevating the quality of our projects and enhancing the overall storytelling impact.
Thank you to this amazing talent for joining us on this exciting ride! Your contribution is highly appreciated and valuable. We can not wait to work with you again. The journey has only just begun, and we are eager to continue this remarkable journey of telling impactful stories alongside the finest creative minds. As we move forward, our commitment to fostering cross-cultural collaborations remains unwavering. A special thank you to our internal Business Development team Mattea Dale and Ben Pama. This incredible duo have been responsible for managing many of these projects and have done brilliant work at that. Their adept management skills have significantly alleviated pressure from the creative team; without their contribution, the current level of effectiveness would not have been achievable. They streamline collaboration between ReWild Africa and freelancers, ensuring smooth communication and efficient processes.
