We’d like to just stop for a moment, and look back and reflect on some of our achievements of 2022. Please see our proudest moments of the past year...*drum roll*...
We took a bold step to realising our dream of creating our first original documentary series; Protectors. We welcomed award-winning Director, Carter Kirilenko into the team to head up this project; and after a year of developing, ideating, fundraising, and learning - watch this space for Protectors in 2023!
As part of this process, we successfully raised funds through a crowdfunding campaign for the pilot episode, Dressing the Princess, which explores the incredible conservationists restoring and protecting the Princess Vlei in the Cape Flats. Through themes of indigenous rights, apartheid forced removals, access to nature, activism and ecological restoration, we meet two incredible leaders reconnecting their communities to nature and fighting for a just transition for people and planet. Dressing the Princess will be launched on WaterBear in March - we hope you enjoy it! A shout out to our sponsors here - Orms, Sony, Restor, Picube, RegenZ, Legend Safaris, African Bush Camps, Fireglow & International Conservation Fund.
We filmed in a total of 9 different countries; 7 in Africa, and 2 in Europe! We are really moving to becoming more boundless, and to open our film services not only in Africa, but Europe and other countries too. We are constantly expanding our freelancer ecosystem, and have potential to film just about anywhere in the world with someone that we (and you) can trust. Apply here to be added into our freelancer database.
Alessandra even got the chance to tell a story for BBC StoryWorks in her home country, Italy. The film hasn’t been launched yet but it is based around innovative biotechnologies that could help combat climate change. More on this later!
A film we made won an award!! Working with the incredible African Climate Reality Project, the protagonist of the film, Ewi Stephanie Lamma, received the UN Agora Award for Climate Action last year. The film explores gender, indigenous rights, and restoration solutions in Cameroon, and will be screened at events hosted by the United Nations, African Union, Global Landscape Forum, and We Don’t Have Time. ReWild produced a total of 12 BBC Storyworks films in 2022! The locations for these films ranged from Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Italy & South Africa. We absolutely love working with the BBC Storyworks team of experienced and talented producers, and we’re infinitely grateful for the impactful and positive stories that we get to tell here.
