Dear ReWilder,
We are wrapping up 2023, a year of growth, new experiences, connection, and excitement. This year has been a big one for ReWild Africa and we have felt the support from all of you ReWilders. We sincerely appreciate each of you. Let's take a moment to reflect on a couple of memorable moments this year.
We had the opportunity to produce a feature-length documentary for Don’t Gas Africa. This production was a valuable learning experience and we thoroughly enjoyed working on such a meaningful story. During this production we were exposed to the challenges that African communities face due to fossil fuel exploration, serving as a reminder of our profound purpose behind storytelling. It highlighted the importance of amplifying the voices and narratives that often go unheard. This reaffirmed our commitment to doing our utmost to ensure that these vital stories reach a global audience. Watch the Don’t Gas Africa documentary ‘Shifting Power’ below, which was also screened at #COP28!
This year we did our annual team retreat to Porcupine Hills to reflect on the year 2023 and strategize for the upcoming year. An incredible experience filled with love, laughter, learning, joy, and new dreams. We also had the privilege to spend valuable time with the ReWilder community and some of our friends. This was a special and rewarding experience, we are looking forward to the next one!
Our FreeWilder ‘Freelancer’ Ecosystem was epic this year! The value our freelancer community brought to ReWild Africa is truly special. Their commitment was impressive, and they invested so much effort into each project. We would like to thank and appreciate them for their contribution. We learn a great deal from their expertise and enjoy the fresh ideas they bring to the table. Well done guys!
Our first production to hit a million views on Youtube! We recently produced a trailer for Restor, a platform that connects people and projects to data, funding, and each other to accelerate learning and action. The Restor platform serves as a global source of inspiration for land restoration, featuring diverse and remarkable projects spanning the globe. This production was another big effort by a ReWild Freelancer, Julian Culverhouse, an amazingly talented FreeWilder.
P.s you can also join our FreeWilder ecosystem by getting in touch with us here.
We had another successful year producing a whopping 9 films for BBC StoryWorks. We are incredibly proud of this and look forward to many more. Thank you to BBC StoryWorks for inviting us to work on such inspiring stories that are going to shape the future we all dream of. A future where people and the planet thrive.
This year we had the opportunity to work on many inspiring productions that reflect the hard work organizations and individuals invest into achieving change. One of those films is one we produced in The Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone in Limpopo. This film addresses the conflict of interest in local political decision-making and indigenous communities fighting to preserve their land and culture. We tell the story of the indigenous Venda people in the Limpopo Valley, and the significance of the land as the place of their ancestors. The community is working hard at trying to save their ancestral land from government development initiatives. Witness the power of bold voices coming together for a meaningful cause in the film below.
That's a wrap! Thank you once again to all of you wonderful ReWilders, having a community like you is humbling and motivating. A special thank you to the ReWild Africa team, wow guys you outdone yourself this year. You are all special and this journey would not be what it is without you. Sending love to all of you! Happy festive season everybody!
