Dear ReWilder,
Marginalised communities across Africa are at the forefront of the injustices felt by climate change. We can only begin to see transformation for wild places, once we heal ourselves and engage with our lived communities.
Climate change and variable weather patterns will likely worsen food insecurity and malnutrition in parts of Africa. With warming of 1.2—1.9°C (2.1—3.4°F), the number of people undernourished in Western and Eastern Africa could increase by 25—90 percent. “ Food and Agriculture of the UN (FAO)
Within this newsletter we look to showcase 2 films completed in the last year, providing perspectives on social justice through building community resilience in the face of climate change, and how we need to provide greater healthcare for NDC’s (A non-communicable disease) across Africa.
The film below was on commissioned by the African Climate Reality Project. We produced 5 different episodes across South Africa, looking at the impact of Climate Change on different themes. This particular episode sheds light on the inequalities faced by communities. Others include journalism, gender, civil society and youth.
Watch the rest of the 4 episodes here.
The film below was commissioned to ReWild by BBC StoryWorks. It goes into the incredible story of Sally Agollo Kwendo, a women living with HIV, who has become an advocate for NCD’s ( non-communicable diseases).
It is clear that Africa has a number of complex social issues that will only exacerbate as the impact of climate change grows. It is imperative that we acknowledge, empathise and act as global audience to solve these issues.

And leaving you with a last poem by David Wagoner (1999)…
Lost
Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.
Wild Regards,
Sam and the team from ReWild Africa
